Cesium chloride
塩化セシウム
[CAS No. 7647-17-8]
Molecular formula: CsCl Molecular weight: 168.36
ABSTRACT
Cesium chloride was studied for oral toxicity in rats in a 90-day repeat dose toxicity test at doses of 0, 10, 50 and 250 mg/kg.
Four males given 250 mg/kg died, one male given 50 mg/kg and two males given 250 mg/kg were sacrificed upon becoming moribund during the administration period. The following changes were observed in the 50 and/or 250 mg/kg groups: irritability, convulsions, face washing, and crust formation. Decreased body weight, body weight gain and food intake and increased water intake were also observed. Hematological examination revealed anemia. Blood chemical examination revealed an increase in AST(GOT) and ALT(GPT), and a decrease in potassium. Urinalysis revealed a decrease in specific gravity, sodium and potassium concentrations as well as, an increase in leukocytes, small round epithelial cells, and crystals. The thymus, heart, liver, spleen and epididymis weights were decreased. Necropsy revealed white heart patches, calculi in urinary bladder, calculi in the kidneys, enlargement and whitish change of the adrenals. Histopathological examination revealed increased degeneration in the myocardium, an increase of hematopoiesis in bone marrow, crystals in the kidneys, increase in lipid droplets in the glomerular zone of the adrenals, degeneration of muscle(femoral), and enlargement of Harderian glands.
The NOEL is considered to be less than 10 mg/kg/day for males and females.

Four males given 250 mg/kg died, and one male given 50 mg/kg and two males given 250 mg/kg were sacrificed upon becoming moribund. Convulsions, face washing and crust formation in the 250 mg/kg groups, and irritability in the 50 and 250 mg/kg groups were observed. The body weights and body weight gain were decreased in males given 250 mg/kg. Food intake was decreased in the 250 mg/kg groups, and water intake was increased in males given 50 and 250 mg/kg. Hematological examination revealed decreases in the erythrocyte count, Hb and Ht in the 250 mg/kg group, and an increase in the reticulocyte count in males of the 50 mg/kg group and in the 250 mg/kg group. Blood chemical examination revealed an increase in AST (GOT) and ALT (GPT) in the 250 mg/kg group and a decrease in potassium in the 50 and 250 mg/kg groups. Urinalysis revealed a decrease in specific gravity and sodium in males given 250 mg/kg and in potassium in the 250 mg/kg males and females. An increase in leukocytes, small round epithelial cells and crystals were observed in urine sediment in males of 50 and 250 mg/kg groups. Absolute weights of the thymus were decreased in the 250 mg/kg group and absolute weights of the heart, liver, spleen, and epididymis were decreased in the 250 mg/kg males. Necropsy revealed white heart patches in males of the 50 mg/kg and the 250 mg/kg groups. Enlargement of the spleen in females of the 250 mg/kg group, calculi in urinary bladder and urethra in males of the 50 and 250 mg/kg groups were also observed. Enlargement of the adrenals in the 250 mg/kg groups and whitish change in the 250 mg/kg females were observed. An increase of hematopoiesis in bone marrow, crystals in kidneys, increase in lipid droplets of the glomerular zone of adrenals, degeneration of muscle (femoral), and enlargement of Harderian glands were observed in the 50 mg/kg group. Degeneration of the myocardium in males of the 10, 50 and 250 mg/kg groups was also observed.
The NOEL is considered to be less than 10 mg/kg/day for males and females.
